Here are 4 proven methods to set up Windows 11 with a local account (no Microsoft account required):
- OOBE Bypass (Shift+F10 Command)
Works on most Windows 11 versions (including 2025 builds):
During installation, proceed until the ”Let’s connect you to a network” screen.
Press Shift + F10 (or Fn + Shift + F10 on laptops) to open Command Prompt.
Enter:
cmd
Copy Code
oobe\BypassNRO.cmd
(Note: Use backslashes \, not forward slashes /).
The PC will reboot automatically. After restarting, select ”I don’t have internet” to skip Microsoft account setup.
- New 2025 Method: start ms-cxh:localonly
Faster alternative discovered in 2025:
At the Microsoft account login screen, press Shift + F10.
Type:
cmd
Copy Code
start ms-cxh:localonly
The system will immediately switch to local account creation without rebooting.
- Fake Email Trick
For stubborn setups where commands fail:
At the Microsoft account login page, enter:
Email: no@thankyou.com or 1@1.com
Password: Any random text.
Windows will display an error (“too many failed attempts”) and offer a local account option. - Post-Installation Switch (For Already Setup PCs)
If you already logged in with a Microsoft account:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info.
Click ”Sign in with a local account instead” and follow prompts.
Key Notes
⚠ Requirements:
Disconnect internet (unplug Ethernet/Wi-Fi) before starting setup.
Some methods may require Windows 11 22H2 or later.
🔧 Troubleshooting:
If BypassNRO.cmd fails, ensure:
CMD window is active (click inside it before typing).
Use US keyboard layout if commands don’t register.
For enterprise devices, Group Policy can enforce local accounts. Need more help? Ask below! 🛠️
